Books (Theory, Techniques & Play Alongs)
The world needed better rumba play alongs to practice with. So here's the first 3 for you. I wanted it to have a live jamming-type vibe like when I played in my bands, so there are no loops, I played in everything myself and didn't edit it to be perfect, I wanted to keep a human element to it and I hope that it inspires you to play and learn more.
In the book, it shows you the scales and arpeggios that I use a lot with this style of music and there is sheet music/tablature for each one as well.
This book shows my techniques of how I play Finger-Style Percussive Reggae. It goes into the techniques I use for my strumming hand only. This will get you on track for playing Reggae as well as many other styles of music. Once you have the techniques sorted out, then you can do what you want with them. I also decided to include a video too that goes through the techniques to help you out.
Here's a different way to think about your arpeggios for your plucking hand. It will work wonders for your playing, from timing to dynamics and more. Come up with new ideas using this concept and get your technique on point. I definitely saw some great improvement when I started to do this. Unlock your inner drummer ;)
Here's a book with some of the main guitar exercises that pop up all the time for me and my students. There are so many other different exercises out there and it's easy to get lost in it all, but these are a few of the great ones that I continue to use. They will help with co-ordination between both hands and also with strength and precision, as long as you practice them properly.
This is aimed mostly at people that don't know much/any music theory. It's not too detailed, but enough to get you understanding the basics. It's to help you play, not to become a composing genius, although that's totally possible too ;) I go into a little extra detail at the end, and even though there's a lot more to learn about theory, this will give you a great base to work from.
